Happy Feast of St. Clare

Happy Feast of St. Clare

St. Clare, founder of the second order of Franciscans

St. Clare of Assisi was not simply a follower of Francis, she was a formidable, resolute, devout and loving saint whose life centered on this essence of human identity. She and her ladies formed the contemplative side of the Franciscan Order. The Poor Clare nuns at the Franciscan Monastery of St. Clare in Cincinnati continue her rule as a loving community following the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Blessing of St. Clare

May Almighty God bless you
May God look upon you with eyes of mercy
And give you peace
On earth may God pour forth
Graces on you abundantly
And in heaven... in heaven
May God place you among the saints.

The Poor Clares of Cincinnati sing, The Blessing of St. Clare.

Poor Clares celebrate 30 years in Cincinnati

Poor Clares

Poor Clare Sisters Doris Gerke, Anna Marie Covely, and Dianne Short in 1990.

On June 24, 2020, the Poor Clares of the Franciscan Monastery of St. Clare celebrated 30 years together.  In 1990, three Poor Clares nuns in three different monasteries heard the Holy Spirit’s call and responded to that call to live a new expression of Poor Clare life in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Srs. Doris Gerke,  Anna Marie Covely, and Dianne Short were welcomed to the Archdiocese by Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk and Provincial Minister Jeremy Harrington.
