Considering Religious Life Demands Courage and Faith in God

Provincial Vicar Fr. Frank Jasper, OFM, speaks of the joys and challenges that face our young men in formation today.

"It’s difficult for young people to join the Franciscans these days.  I hear that from our young friars regularly.  Their peers say, 'You’re nuts!' for considering religious life.  Sometimes, parents are more interested in grandchildren that what their son thinks is best.  So, it’s a tough choice that demands tremendous courage and faith in themselves and in God.

I am proud of these men because they are serious about developing their spiritual life, loving Jesus, living the Gospel and serving the people of God.  They are idealistic, courageous and energized to grow as Franciscans.

Here is what three of our men are doing to develop as Franciscans:

Br. William Estrellanes, OFM

Br. William Estrellanes, OFM, made his First Profession of Vows on August 2nd.  "First Profession made me think about the wonderful friars I have met, the people who have helped shape my vocation, and the way God has been present in my discernment.  I am never alone.  I always have my brothers to help me grow in the Gospel Life," says Br. Will.  See more photos at our Provincial gallery.

Br. Cliff Hennings, OFM

Br. Clifford Hennings, OFM, is preparing to make his Solemn Profession in late August.  Last summer, Br. Cliff was featured in the post, 'Living and Working with the Poor'

Br.Richard Goodin, OFM, is preparing to be ordained a Transitional Deacon soon and is furthering his studies toward the priesthood.

Br. Richard Goodin, OFM

Br. Richard made his Solemn Profession in August of 2011.  In this video, Br. Richard speaks of his call from God to live a life of simplicity.

These men are our future and through your generosity, we are able to offer the education that is critical to serving the needs of the Church well.

Thank you so much for your support of our work.  We are indeed grateful."
