Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

friar

Fr. John Bok, OFM

Thanksgiving is a wonderful reminder for us to really think about our many blessings and to give thanks to God for them. Most of us are fortunate enough to spend time with family and the people we love sharing great food during this special time.

I get together with my sister, Mary, who has seven children and 20 grandchildren! Most of the time, there are 30-40 of us who gather each year. I am the oldest at 87 and there is now a new baby at the other end who is only a few weeks old. It’s always a great time.

Unfortunately, some people will spend Thanksgiving unsheltered and hungry. Many families will need help with food for the holidays. Because of your generosity each year, many of our friars are able to help those in need by handing out holiday bags or baskets filled with goods and ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal. Some people will visit our soup kitchens or dining centers for a hot meal—not just on Thanksgiving, but throughout the year.

When I think of my many blessings, I realize just how blessed I am to know so many generous and compassionate people like you who make the work of my brothers possible. Thank you for providing us the opportunity to help our brothers and sisters in Christ.

May God Bless you for all you do. Happy Thanksgiving!
