August 7, Sixth day of the Novena to St. Clare

Today we pray for those who are deeply affected by depression or another mental illness and for their families.

Francis knew of St. Clare’s healing power, and he sent her a friar named Steven who was mentally ill so that she could make the sign of the cross over him. St. Clare made the sign of the cross over him and then placed him where she prayed in the chapel. He fell asleep, and when he woke up, he was healed.

May we sit with those in our families who are mentally ill and with those who ask for our prayers. May we ask St. Clare to intercede for them and for us as we make the journey of mental illness with them. May they experience healing and peace through the care of St. Clare and from our prayers and presence.

We ask this through Jesus, our brother, the Father, and the Breath of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
