August 6, Fifth day of Novena to St. Clare

Today we pray for our youth to be safe, loved and to know God.

A tradition in our Memphis monastery was to put on plays and re-enact moments about St. Clare and her life. Our Sr. Alma’s portrayal of a mother seeking the return of her little boy was one of the most memorable of all. A wolf was terrorizing the countryside. One day, the ferocious wolf came and carried away the mother’s little boy. The mother lifted her arms to the heavens and prayed for St. Clare to intercede and bring her son back to her. Miraculously, the wolf dropped the boy and fled. The mother’s son was returned to her. Today, let us ask St. Clare to intercede for all children who are in harm’s way, whether it be from hunger, violence, abuse, bullying, human trafficking, Covid-19, or any other danger.
